Fun For The Whole Family-Scooby Doo Child Costumes
Would a Scooby Doo costume bring excitement to your family? Dog Halloween costumes are a popular item and who better to spend this creepy night with your little ones than the top animal detective of all time. A Scooby Doo Costume would thrill just about anyone, and why not? They have been around for many years and the longevity of the characters is truly amazing!
History has brought us many animal heroes but none have been more prominent with kids than the lovable Great Dane and his adventurous gang of mystery solvers. Shaggy, Daphne, Velma and Scooby Doo Fred have been part of the cartoon detective culture for over forty years. Scooby was often the hero even though he was portrayed as being a coward. He and his seemingly always nervous master Shaggy would spend their free time eating everything in sight but somehow always manage to save the day. Scooby was unique because he was a talking pet even though sometimes his English was very broken. Everything he said seemed to start with the letter “r” with his famous phrase being “ruh-roh Raggy” as he voiced his fear to best friend Shaggy.
Down through the ages, Halloween has been a time of the year for witches, ghosts, goblins, devils and any other monster that one might think of. The folklore says that all of these Halloween characters were used to scare away demons. But as time has passed so have some of the original traditions. Movies, television shows and cartoons have provided us with unlimited ideas, changed the face of the horror and injected a lighter and even sometimes comical side into the Halloween holiday.
A great example of this is Scooby Doo, the now famous brown dog with those distinctive black spots. With a nose for food, his eye for trouble and his extremely good nature, it’s no wonder he became a star. His Scooby Doo toys and costumes have been some of the more recognizable down through the years.
The popular Scooby Doo costume consists of a jumpsuit with a headpiece that is attached. PLEASE NOTE: The child costumes tend to be snug. If in between sizes please purchase a size larger for comfort. THANKS and Happy Halloween!!

Some Halloween Superstition Traditions
Halloween costumes are filled with magic, mystery and superstition. The holiday itself is full of much of the same. It’s birth is said to come from a Celtic festival where family would dress up and celebrate. Then as darkness came, they would leave treats on their doorsteps and light candles so their deceased loved ones could find their way. Witches, ghosts, black cats and vampires all have played a major role in the mysterious and intriguing yearly event. Some of the superstitions include not breaking mirrors or spilling salt, especially close to Halloween. Do not walk under a ladder. If you see a black cat, avoid crossing paths with it at all costs.
The reason for this dates back to the middle ages when it was said that witches could conform into black cats to keep from being noticed. While many of the Halloween rituals focused on the dead, there were also beliefs that life in the future could be controlled. In Ireland during the eighteenth century, a cook would bury a ring in the potatoes on Halloween night. Supposedly who ever found it would find everlasting love.
And then there was Scotland, where young women were told to throw hazelnuts into the fire after naming each one for every suitor that she had. If one of the nuts turned to ashes instead of exploding, this signified her husband to be. There was also a similar version of the same exact tale that suggested that the hazelnut that turned to ashes assured a young woman of love that would fail. Poor girls, what were they to believe!
Then there were superstitious rituals where people would compete. Apple- bobbing was one contest, the winner would be the next to marry. Another involved a hunt for chestnuts. The first to find a burr on a chestnut-hunt would be the next to marry. No matter what Halloween means to you, whether it be dressing up in the most unique Halloween costume you can find, or holding a séance to communicate with beings of your choice, your success depends on the willingness of the spirits to cooperate with you.
